Supernatural

So, a series that came to my attention over Christmas because it was on sale at Wal-Mart and because I am a nerd in a big way when it comes to television shows that deal with the supernatural/sci-fi (Buffy, Dollhouse, Dead Like Me, etc.). However, after watching the first season, I was pleasantly surprised and went out to buy the remaining 3 seasons on DVD.

There are a few things that make this series “watchable” to me. I won’t say that it’s the best series that I’ve ever watched, but overall, it is the fun of the series that makes me attracted to it. The series is about two guys, Sam and Dean Winchester (Brothers), who are on a hunt for the yellow-eyed demon who killed their mother when they were just kids. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki play these two brothers, and they have amazing chemistry as the older/younger brother thing comes into play quite often. Their banter back and forth while riding in their ’67 Impala or just sitting in a hotel room makes the show enjoyable to anyone who has ever had siblings.

The stories are also very intriguing to myself. They are based in ghost stories, folklore, myth, and legend from all over the globe. They somehow stay true to the heart of these legends while giving it their own spin which gives it credit in my book (because I despise those who misuse legends/myth flippantly).

The thought that went into making the series also astounds me. It is clear after watching the first 4 seasons that there was some real thought put into the whole of the series before the first episode was ever made. They bring several story arcs that seem to be independent of each other back together to create a cohesive whole. Also, the series never ceases to intrigue me because they are constantly pulling new myth and legend together.

Overall, I would have to say that the show is enjoyable and that I would recommend it to anyone that needs to get their “supernatural” fix as it were. So, go grab the DVDs, sit back, and enjoy the show.
