Halloween on the Horizen

with 2 comments

Soon, the ghouls, ghosts, vampires, and werewolves will fill the city streets of the local neighborhoods in which we all live. There may be parties that we’re invited to. And who knows? We might see an actual ghosts on one of those tv specials…All these things are enjoyable, but there are somethings that I enjoy about Halloween a little more than others.

1) I like decorating for holidays like Halloween. Next to Christmas, it is the most enjoyable holiday to decorate for. With the carving of pumpkins, the scary decorations, etc., it’s wonderful to see someone that is going all out for their Halloween House. You know the ones with the real coffin in the front yard and the graveyard too. It’s all about the “scare” factor.

2) I know that I just mentioned it in passing. However, pumpkin carving can be really fun too. I watched a show on the Food Network last night on which they carved and sculpted pumpkins. Needless to say, their pumpkins were masterpieces compared to what I produce. However, they allow me to aspire to new levels of carving greatness…even though my pumpkin may very well end up with the three triangle and scary mouth look, I can hope to have something like this.

3) I love to dress up in and make costumes. Over the past few years, I have been a serial killer (went in my own clothes because they look like everyone else), Mama Cass (sans the ham sandwich), Hades from Disney’s Hercules, an aristocratic vampire, a wizard, and many more…I like to create interesting costume ideas that will make people go “Oh, that’s what you are!” I guest part of it comes from being a theater person. I also like that Halloween is the one day a year you can dress up as someone other than yourself in the general public and get away with it.

So, as this Halloween come on, I will hopefully get around to doing some of these things that I enjoy if school will allow me to. Regardless, I hope to enjoy the ton of scary movies that will be on tv at this time. Happy Halloween to all of you out there. May your days be very frightful!

  1. Also, I miss doing Hall-o-grams at my Undergraduate institution…nothing like dressing up and acting a fool for a good cause.
