100 Posts and Counting

with one comment

So, I’m up to my 100th post on my blog…I don’t know whether that’s to be celebrated or what…It just boggles my mind that I’ve posted this much, but I think it ties into the idea of why I wanted to blog in the first place. I think blogging has become a favorite pastime of mine for several reasons.

1) It allows me an open forum to rant/discuss my ideas. Not everywhere do you have this. Given I have the workplace and multiple friends that I feel open to chat with; however, this allows me to just randomly talk and chat with myself as the primary audience and you readers bounce ideas back and me. It also allows me to get my entire idea out before some people (and you know people like this) start trying to interfere and add to my idea.

2) Blogging is kind of like a journal of my thoughts and ideas. It might seem weird to put these out in such a public forum. But what do I have to hide? Hopefully, no one thinks that I do have something to hide because really I’m quite boring and I don’t. It actually gives me something I can go back to later in order to get inspiration for writing or thinking in general.

3) It’s my way of really relaxing sometimes. There is nothing better than sitting down and typing away on a computer to get the mind pumping and the creative juices flowing. Blogging helps me get into a good frame of mind to do many things. It settles me down for going to sleep at times (as seen by the late postings of many of my blogs). It helps me get my thoughts in order (after a day at the old grindstone).

4) Finally, it’s getting me back in the writing habit. I hope to go back to grad school in the fall (more like an I am sort of thing at this point) and know that I will be required to write a lot. Now, for an English major, you may be thinking this shouldn’t be a stretch. However, after being out of school and without a purely academic job for a year, I notice that my skills have gotten rusty from not using them. Blogging is really allowing me to get my “writing hat” back on. I’ve noticed that as I’ve been blogging thoughts and ideas for writing projects I’ve been working on come a lot easier.

When thinking over the randomness that is my first 100 posts, I can see where my mind has been and possibly where it is going. Whether writing poetry or discussing the new Captain America queries, I can see that I have definitely spurred something in my head to write which for me is a good thing.
